SANGLI RIDE
I dedicate this ride to a 11 year old kid “Siddarth” who I met on NH 4 on my return ride from Sangli.
I rode out to Sangli, an important trading and agriclutural center, some 240 kms from Pune, at the invitation of a young rider, Mayank Shah. We met on Orkut…what caught my eye was his collection of bikes.
Departed 17 May 06:30 arr Sangli 12:30 hrs. Return same time next day.
I took the NH 4 to Karad and turned off to Sangli. Both the NH4 n the state highway to Sangli are beautiful roads. I quite like the rural outbacks.
Got to see Mayanks collection of 3 old Bulls, completely redone by him, with some help from mechanics. The Bull he plans to ride to Leh, July 07 is a BEAUTY. 1985 model.
He has himself modded a Honda Unicorn, amazing stuff he has done, in his own workshop. He is good with his hands. Grease monkey, totally insane, all of just 20 yrs old. He has had his share of crashes, and now rides safe.
His ZMA is lying some where in 20 pieces, after a crash.
On my return, I stopped for a butt break to drink some Neera. Met a cool dude Siddarth there. This young 11 something kid makes some Rs 30/- per day, working 9 am to 5 pm. He told me that this money pays for his education and brings money for food. He lost his father early.
At Satara, I found myself in the middle of Paris!!!
It was worth riding 498 kms updown to meet Mayank.
